Cupboards, drawers and garages often contain objects that are no longer used but could still be useful to someone else. Some are easy to recognise, such as an old phone. Others appear ordinary until their model, condition or scarcity is examined more closely.
Technology sleeping in drawers
Smartphones, tablets, laptops, connected watches and headphones remain attractive when they work properly. Even an older device may suit someone looking for secondary equipment, a first purchase or a specific model.
Accessories also matter. Original chargers, styluses, keyboards, docking stations and complete packaging can make a set more appealing.
Consoles and video games
Older consoles, controllers, physical games and special editions may retain significant value. Cables, cases and discs should all be checked. A complete game with its manual and packaging is generally more attractive than an isolated copy.
Scarcity is not enough by itself. Demand, compatibility and actual condition also determine whether an item is desirable.
Photography, audio and creative equipment
Cameras, lenses, microphones, speakers and musical instruments can remain useful for many years. Their value often depends more on operation and maintenance than on purchase date.

Fashion, decoration and collections
A quality garment, a well-preserved pair of shoes, a bag, a watch or a decorative object may find a new audience. Signed, numbered, vintage or limited-series pieces require careful checks of authenticity.
Collections are especially sensitive to condition. Packaging, certificates, wear and storage conditions should be documented precisely.
How can you tell whether an item deserves a second life?
Four questions provide a useful first filter: does it work, is it complete, can its model be identified and does it still meet a current need? If the answers are positive, the item probably deserves a more serious valuation.
Compare genuinely similar items rather than products from the same broad category. Reference, year, materials, capacity and accessories can all change the value considerably.
Present the item transparently
A useful presentation includes photos from several angles, a factual description, dimensions where relevant and a list of everything included. Defects should be visible. Transparency prevents unrealistic expectations and makes handover easier.
